I bought this book at the urging of a friend. I have been an avid reader all my life and especially enjoyed reading books on creativity. Thinking this was going to be another mundane treatise on creativity, I planned only a cursory reading of the book. To my surprise, Dr. Cuero has been able to offer a novel approach to creativity. He believes that loneliness, a condition that is an inevitable aspect of human existence in ancient and modern times can be a source of creativity. Despite having advanced internet technology, and unparalleled scientific discoveries, humans continue to be plagued by the void created by loneliness. According to Dr. Cuero, it is not the technology that has heightened our loneliness and social isolation. Rather, it is the existential void that is created when humans fall into a passive lifestyle which lead to a monotonous existence.He believes that unleashing our innate creative abilities (taking action) is the only solution to plug the existential vacuum. Drawing on his experiences as practicing research scientist, worldwide cultural experiences, international lecturer, and the inventive process he shows how humans---from Homo sapiens living in caves were able to use their creative abilities to fashion tools that ensured their survival. Clearly, Dr. Cuero believes creativity is not just an abstract theoretical construct that clouds our human potential. Rather, the ability to create is necessary to our survival as a species. Without our ability to create humans would regressed to the moral equivalent of animals grazing on the savannah then falling asleep, eventually becoming lost in the cosmos.
I am a well-educated individual and have achieved a reasonable level of my success in both my personal life. However, I have been deluded by the notion that knowledge acquisition is the key success and productive life. However, after reading this book, I realize that constructing and sustaining epistemology is the factor that guarantee our continued progress and survival, but this is only achievable through creativity. Indeed, knowledge acquisition could only be a collection of information and facts, by itself, facts alone will not solve societal problems or ameliorate our loneliness. It is only through creative action according to Dr. Cuero that humans can lead more productive lives. On a final note, I would like to share that I have spent thousands of dollars purchasing items from Amazon (books and consumer electronics), but I rarely provide product reviews especially reviews as comprehensive as the one I am sharing here. However, after reading this book, rich with novel insights, I would be remiss if I did not share the wealth of information that this gem of a book has provided.

This is the book that provides the intellectual reasoning behind a parent's intuition that too much time on devices hurts children, families and societies. Dr. Cuero provides a wake-up call for productive action. He describes the downside to rewarding children as an entitlement, rather than after hard work, and the consequences of passive and solitary engagement on devices. While this discussion of loneliness will hit home for parents, it's a great read for anyone who enjoys contemplating the nexus of history, philosophy, science and contemporary societal trends.
Raul Cuero, PhD nails it starting with the illustration on the cover to the testimonials of his young inventors he has mentored utilizing his principals of creativity and invention experiences. This is an excellent read for adolescence trying to find their way and parents/adults looking for direction in a highly technological society (in which loneliness seems to be the most common denominator). Working thru loneliness by utilizing creativity and invention offers us a bridge for all ages as it triggers a sense of self accomplishment, a sense of belonging that guides us thru life’s perplexing moments. It is there that we find ourselves to create, to become, to achieve satisfaction in a world overstimulated with information and technology. The book offers insight thru the eyes of a laboratory research scientist, an inventor, and international lecturer who has witnessed the impact of technology on people and their cultures. And by utilizing his principles and experience as a research scientist, inventor, and lecturer around the world, Raul Cuero explains how creativity and invention is available to everyone and every culture. An easy and yet thought provoking read that I would recommend to anyone.

I have followed Dr. Cuero's career for a while and I am very much aware of his commitment to helping your people develop their creative skills primarily through science and other means. This book is a reflection of his lifetime work on creativity and what it can offer humanity. It is certainly worth a read.
I excitedly welcomed the arrival of "Loneliness as a Source of Creativity" by Dr. Raul Cuero because I have known of, observed, and admired his work over the years with international youth in the International Park of Creativity. His book speaks to me. In contrast to common negative feelings regarding loneliness and aloneness, Cuero endorses this state as necessary for creativity. He urges individuals (and societies) to "harness . . . as a stimulus for action" loneliness as a way to produce creations that benefit societies and to avoid lapsing into depression or escape behaviors in order to avoid the human condition of existential anguish. Cuero also differentiates between innovation and invention. (Innovation is an improvement on what already exists; invention is new knowledge and has higher value to societies.) "Loneliness as a Source of Creativity" provides a different and valuable perspective on loneliness. The book is a good translation of the original Spanish version and is an informative read.
